Németh, Renáta Erzsébet ; Říchová, Blanka (advisor) ; Mlejnek, Josef (referee)
The Master's thesis entitled "Transformation of Viktor Orbán's Government Attitudes towards the Hungarian Minority in the Context of the War in Ukraine" analyses the changing attitudes of the Hungarian government towards its kin-minority inhabiting the Transcarpathian region. Through qualitative content analysis, the thesis examines the changing trends in the attitude of the kin-state government towards the kin-minority in relation to the onset of open warfare between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. The thesis draws on theories of kin-state activism and kin-state politics. For the purpose of a comprehensive understanding, the issue of the analysis is set in the historical developmental framework of the triad of relations between Hungary and the Hungarian national minority and Ukraine.
Minority Rights and Possibilities of Identification of the Hungarian Minority in Czechoslovakia on Žitný ostrov in 1969-1989
Ročkár, Matej ; Juhászová, Tereza (advisor) ; Klípa, Ondřej (referee)
The thesis deals with the minority rights of the Hungarian minority in Czechoslovakia in the period 1969 - 1989. The thesis focuses on the impact of the state's minority policy on the everyday life of Hungarians on Žitný ostrov, which is one of the regions with the strongest proportion of Hungarians of all regions in Slovakia. The period between 1969 and 1989 was marked not only by the normalisation processes following the invasion of the Warsaw Pact troops but also by the federalisation of Czechoslovakia. Thanks to this, some of the competencies that had an impact on the daily life of national minorities were transferred to the level of Slovakia as one of the state-forming units. This thesis aims to find out how members of the Hungarian minority experienced the period of normalisation. To answer this question, research was conducted in the form of personal interviews with witnesses. Their memories and experiences of the period under study are confronted in the thesis with the minority legislation in force at the time. The main part of the thesis is devoted to the possibility of identification of the Hungarian minority. First of all, it focuses on the possibility of using the mother tongue in the public space, education, access to media, information and culture in the Hungarian language....
Relations of Czechoslovakia and Hungary through the years 1918-1939 (Tendencies in the development of Czechoslovak-Hungarian relations through the years 1918-1939)
Pejša, Robert ; Chmel, Rudolf (advisor) ; Kiss, Csaba Gy (referee) ; Randák, Jan (referee)
In its evaluation of the main political and cultural-social tendencies of the Czechoslovak-Hungarian interwar relations, this dissertation aims to introduce a new approach to investigating the forms, shapes and perspectives of relations that in the crucial period between 1925 and 1932 reflected a sphere that was far more significant than the political and economic spheres (these only reflected the current interests of individual policies). This sphere, bringing an entirely new perspective on research of Czechoslovak-Hungarian relations, was the internal level of the Czechoslovak-Hungarian relationship - the relationship between Czechoslovak society and its internal policy regarding activities of the Hungarian minority. In this period, there was a diametric difference between these activities and official Hungarian policy. This dissertation attempts to point out that which has until now been ignored: in terms of internal organization and foreign policy goals, the two states were distinctly incompatible (during the whole period between 1918 and 1939), whereas the internal Czechoslovak-Hungarian relations (the evolving relationship between the majority and minority) indicated that there existed areas and population groups that could have allowed for gradual cultural and social convergence occurring...
Approaches to the Hungarian minority in Slovakia in issues of minority education and the possibility of subsequent application in the working process
Dlábik, Ľubomír ; Irmanová, Eva (advisor) ; Balla, Petr (referee)
This diploma thesis clarifies the issue of Triadic nexus among Slovakia, Hungary and the Hungarian minority concerning education and economic access to areas inhabited by the Hungarian minority, which affect the graduates of minority schools in the Slovak labor market. At the same time it aspires to refer to this relationship as one of the factors that may impact on reduction in the number of members of the Hungarian minority in Slovakia. The main focus is on the trilateral approach to the issue of education in the Slovak minority schools in Hungarian language in case of teaching the state language. The consequences of the different trilateral relation approach to minority education can lead to inefficiency of minority schools teaching Slovak language, which can, in conjunction with the current economic approach of Slovakia to the areas inhabited by the Hungarian minority, lead to migratory pressures on graduates of minority schools as for the choice of university studies and their employability. The lack of language skills reduces their competitiveness and flexibility compared to linguistically better equipped individuals. The statistical data in education, employment and population movements that will be analyzed and compared, are freely available, and confirm this hypothesis.
Comparison of the position of the current Hungarian minority in Vojvodina and Transylvania
Hanušová, Tereza ; Kocián, Jiří (advisor) ; Klípa, Ondřej (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the position of the Hungarian minority in Serbian Vojvodina and Romanian Transylvania using the comparative method. Hungarians in Serbia and Romania represent a very large national minority and they became an integral part of the local culture and society. The level of Hungarian minority rights in the host countries is compared in four areas: legislation, political representation and institutionalization of the minority, mother tongue education opportunities and the Hungarian minority media. Apart from a brief outline of the historical context, the work focuses exclusively on the period after the fall of communism in both states to the present. During these years, there has been the biggest shift in the area of minority rights. The concept of ethnic parallelism is applied to all researched areas. Related to this, the so-called ethnolinguistic vitality approach is used, which deals with the conditions for the preservation of minority languages in the majority society. Special attention is paid to the influence of the Hungarian government under Primer Minister Viktor Orbán on the life of Hungarians abroad, which is significantly growing.

Relation of culture to the social space of Prague (on the example of Slovak and Hungarian minorities)
Mészárosová, Marianna ; Uherek, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Botiková, Marta (referee) ; Červinková, Hana (referee)
The interrelation between space and culture represents the central question of this doctoral thesis. To interpret this relationship the author approaches the issue by virtue of actual identity attributes of the selected ethnic groups, namely Slovak and Hungarian minorities living in Prague. The aim of the work is to define the relevance and unique representation of the spatial and cultural phenomenon in the context of existing relations, including determining the extent of observability this mutual connection. The hypothesis of this doctoral is to present culture as a spatially unbounded, and the phenomenon of space as a medium, which can influence the intensity of interest in relation to the own ethno-identifying components. The verification of this assumption author carries out within social and virtual space, on the basis of registered discourses. Discourses, sorted into thematic categories, represent the most common attributes of ethnicity and ethnic identity of the given target groups. The empirical part of this thesis contains the analysis and interpretation of the discourses, which are supported with the theory of articulation. More comprehensive definitions of applied theoretical approaches, together with terminology, research methods and ethics or netiquette, are situated in the...
